John Stewart Buchan was born on Sunday, 4th August, 1878, in Alloa, Clackmannanshire. The defender signed for Thistle on Friday, 6th May, 1898 (after a trial game), having most recently been with Seafield Thistle. Aged 19, he made his first known appearance on Wednesday, 4th May, 1898, in a 6-1 win at home to Rugby Rovers in a Benefit match. There were no known goals for John during his spell with Thistle. He played his second (and last known) game for the club on Monday, 15th August, 1898, in an 8-0 friendly defeat away to Linthouse. His club-list included Seafield Thistle, Partick Thistle, Alloa Athletic and Hamilton Academical. John died on Tuesday, 11th November, 1941, in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, aged 63.
