Bio Extra

Born in Falkirk, Jock, noted as a solid defender, played club football mainly for Falkirk and Queen's Park, with whom he won the Scottish Cup in 1893, a case of second-time lucky after being a losing finalist in 1892. In time, his steady exploits with the Spiders impressed the Scottish selectors and Jock was made captain for the visit of Wales to Dundee in March 1896. Almost 12,000 were at Carolina Port to see it; Scotland 4 Wales 0. The Scots would be crowned champions of Britain just 2 weeks later. On the domestic front, Jock won further medals with QP via the Glasgow League in 1896–97, and the Glasgow Cup in 1898. In early 1900, he served in the Imperial Yeomanry in the Boer War in South Africa. Throughout his career, Jock's amateur status enabled him to freely make guest appearances for a number of clubs, and this benefitted Partick Thistle on several occasions over a 2 year period from 1902 to 1904. Indeed, Jock put himself forward as being available for selection as required at anytime during 1903-04, a handy offer indeed; Thistle never lost a game when Jock donned the jersey!
