James Dempsey was born on Tuesday, 28th July, 1959, in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire.

The 6' 2 (12st 2lbs) defender signed for Billy Lamont's Thistle on Saturday, 13th August, 1988, having most recently been with Falkirk.

Aged 29, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 13th August, 1988, in a 2-1 defeat at home to Dunfermline Athletic in the SFL First Division.

Jim scored his only goal for Thistle on Saturday, 4th March, 1989, in a 1-1 draw away to Morton in the SFL First Division.

He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 28th October, 1989, in a 2-1 defeat away to St Johnstone in the SFL First Division, having appeared as a Jag on 42 occasions.

Jim's club-list included Lanark United, Motherwell, Clyde, Falkirk, Partick Thistle, Dumbarton, Stirling Albion and Alloa Athletic.

Bio Extra

Tall defender who played centre-half with Thistle, but had also played as a left-back with his previous dubs, Motherwell, Clyde and Falkirk. Powerful and difficult to beat in the air, his only goal for the club came from a header against Morton at Cappielow. He had been loaned out to Dumbarton, but was recalled for a match against St. Johnstone but he was sent off in this match. Soon after this he joined Dumbarton on a permanent basis.
