Bio Extra

This left-sided defender was a product of Partick Thistle’s youth system, and made his professional competitive debut for the Firhill side in May 2016. Following loan spells at East Fife and Livingston, he went on to make 114 appearances for the Jags, scoring four goals, before picking up a League One winner’s medal as Thistle lifted the division flag. His stellar performances earned a move to the top-flight with Livingston in 2021, where he played with future Hearts teammate Alan Forrest, making 94 appearances and scoring three goals across three seasons in West Lothian.

Hearts coach Steven Naismith was a fan and, in the summer of 2024, signed the 25-year-old James to a 3-year-deal at Tynecastle: “He’s someone who knows the domestic game well and has had to work really hard to get to where he is today. James has bags of talent, he’s got a great engine and he’s going to provide us with options. He’ll be an asset for us and he’s at a great age where there’s even more to come. We can develop him further and help him to reach new levels.
