 J. Shankland (forename unknown) was probably born in Scotland, although his place and date of birth remain unknown to us. * The forward probably joined Thistle in 1881. He made his first known appearance on Saturday, 10th September, 1881, in a 3-1 win away to Mavisbank in the Scottish Cup. Shankland scored his first two known goals for Thistle on Saturday, 15th October, 1881, in a 7-1 win at home to Pilgrims in the Scottish Cup. He scored the last of his 4 known goals on Saturday, 28th January, 1882, in a 10-0 win at home to Britannia in the Yoker Cup. He played his last known game for the club on Saturday, 11th November, 1882, in a 6-2 friendly defeat at home to Vale of Leven, having appeared for the Thistle on at least 12 occasions. His known club-list included only Partick Thistle. We don't know where or when Shankland died. *
