Ian Arnold Johnston was born on Thursday, 16th, October 1913 in Oban, Argyll and Bute.

The defender signed for Donald Turner's Thistle on Friday, 5th April, 1935, having most recently been with Arniston Rangers.

Aged 21, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 5th October, 1935, in a 4-0 defeat away to Aberdeen in the SFL First Division.

There were no goals for Ian during his time with Thistle.

He played his last game for the club on Monday, 29th March, 1937, in a 3-1 defeat away to Rangers in the SFL First Division, having appeared as a Jag on 20 occasions.

His club-list included Arniston Rangers, Partick Thistle and Third Lanark.

Ian died in 1981, in York, aged 67. *

Bio Extra

Several months after signing from the East Region juniors, this dual-sided full-back got his first-team start in October 1935 and made 8 Leage appearances before the turn of the year, before dropping back into the second eleven for the remainder of the season. He followed a similar pattern in 1936-37, settling into the right-back position most often. Made the switch to Third Lanark in the summer of 1937, and played most often for the Hi-Hi at left-back, clocking up more than 50 top-flight League appearances during his two seasons at Cathkin Park.
