John Ian Cochrane was born on Monday, 27th April, 1959, in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire. The 5' 10 (11st 10lbs) forward signed for Benny Rooney's Thistle circa Saturday, 23rd June, 1984, having most recently been with Queen of the South. Aged 25, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 28th July, 1984, in a 2-0 friendly defeat away to Queen's Park. Ian scored his first goal for Thistle on Sunday, 5th August, 1984, in a 3-1 friendly win at home to Manchester City. He scored the last of his 3 goals on Saturday, 29th September, 1984, in a 3-2 defeat away to Ayr United in the SFL First Division. He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 13th October, 1984, in a 0-0 draw at home to East Fife in the SFL First Division, having appeared as a Jag on 15 occasions. Ian's club-list included Preston North End, Dundee United, Morton, Hamilton Academical, Queen of the South, Partick Thistle and Cowdenbeath. |
Ex-Morton player who was signed by Benny Rooney at the start of 84/85 season. He was a regular in the team in midfield at the start of the season but was soon replaced and was transferred later that year to Cowdenbeath. |
