Ian Cameron [i] |
Ian Cameron was born on Wednesday, 24th August, 1966, in Glasgow. The 5' 9 (10st 4lbs) midfielder signed for John Lambie's Thistle on Thursday, 30th July, 1992, having most recently been with Aberdeen. Aged 25, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 1st August, 1992, in a 1-0 win at home to Airdrieonians in the SFL Premier Division. Ian scored his first goal for Thistle on Saturday, 22nd August, 1992, in a 2-2 draw at home to Motherwell in the SFL Premier Division. He scored the last of his 19 goals on Thursday, 16th May, 1996, in a 2-1 defeat (aet) away to Dundee United in a League play-off match. He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 13th January, 2001, in a 1-1 draw at home to Stirling Albion in the SFL Second Division, having clocked up 190 appearances as a Jag. Ian's club-list included St Mirren, Aberdeen, Partick Thistle, Hibernian, Raith Rovers, Clyde, Clydebank and Airdrieonians. |
Out of a number of very shrewd moves in the transfer market by John Lambie the signing of Ian Cameron was among the very best. Signed on the eve of the 92/93 season, Thistle's first back in the Premier League, he missed just two games scoring five times from midfield as Thistle defied the critics to stay in the top division. Cameron was also part of the Thistle sides that did the same in each of the following two seasons before the heart breaking play-off defeat at Tannadice in May 1996 meant relegation for Thistle. With just 40 seconds remaining it looked as if Cameron's second half penalty would keep Thistle in the Premier league for another season but fate decreed otherwise. Joined Hibs that summer before moving to Raith Rovers. |
