George Bell Gilchrist was born on Friday, 25th August 1882, in Shettleston, Glasgow. The defender signed for George Easton's Thistle on Wednesday, 7th September, 1904, having most recently been with Rangers. Aged 22, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 10th September, 1904, in a 2-0 win at home to Clyde in the Glasgow Cup. George scored his first goal for Thistle on Monday, 8th May, 1905, in a 3-0 win at home to Celtic in a Benefit match. He scored his second and final goal for the club on Saturday, 23rd March, 1907, in a 3-1 defeat away to Hamilton Academical in the SFL First Division. He played his last game for Thistle on Saturday, 15th August, 1908, in a 4-1 defeat away to Kilmarnock in the SFL First Division, having appeared as a Jag on 81 occasions. His club-list included Clyde, Rangers and Partick Thistle. George died on Saturday, 12th May, 1956, in Clarkston, East Renfrewshire, aged 73. |
