Gavin Rushford |
Gavin David Rushford was born on Monday, 5th May, 1986, in Glasgow. The 5' 11 (10st 7lbs) defender signed for John Lambie's Thistle on Wednesday, 16th April, 2003 (having already appeared as a youth), having most recently been with Partick Thistle Boys Club. Aged 16, he made his debut appearance on Wednesday, 26th March, 2003, in a 4-0 friendly win away to Montrose. There were no goals for Gavin during his spell with Thistle. He played his second and last game for the club on Saturday, 26th April, 2003, in a 3-0 win at home to Motherwell in the Scottish Premier League. His club-list included Partick Thistle, Queen's Park, Cambuslang Rangers, St Roch's, Clydebank and Arthurlie. |
Was with Thistle from the age of 12 and Gerry Collins described him as the best prospect he had ever seen at the club. Made headlines in April 2003 when he came on at the end of a 3-0 Premier League win at home to Motherwell. The 16-year-old was reportedly the youngest to have played in the SPL at that time, possibly true if you're careful with the wording and criteria. He had a bit of a wild streak as a youth, and once beat up an opponent in a pre-season youth friendly. In November 2003, police were called to Firhill to investigate allegations of theft (from players) and a report was sent to the procurator fiscal. He was sacked several weeks later as a result, halfway through his 2-year-deal. He also got nine months in prison for assaulting a 12-year-old boy in August 2012. Finished his playing career with Arthurlie in the mid 2010s. |
