 Frederick George Jackson was born on Thursday, 10th July, 1958, in Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire. The 6' 1 (12st 0lbs) goalkeeper joined Billy Lamont's Thistle as an emergency loanee on Tuesday, 3rd November, 1987, whilst a Baillieston Juniors player. Aged 29, he made his only appearance on Tuesday, 3rd November, 1987, in a 1-0 win at home to Kilmarnock in the SFL First Division. In doing so, Fred joined the goalies' clean-sheet debutant's club. Fred's club-list included Anniesland Waverley, St Mirren, East Stirlingshire, Yoker Athletic, Pollok, Baillieston Juniors and Partick Thistle. |
 Another emergency goalkeeper during 87/88, Freddy arrived from Baillieston during an injury crisis. Had an excellent game against Kilmarnock, then returned to the junior club. The 18-year-old Fred, a product of Anniesland Waverley, had signed with St Mirren in August 1976. With the likes of Donald Hunter and Billy Thomson on the books at Love Street, Fred never got much of a look-in in first-team terms, appearing only in Renfrewshire Cup and friendly games. He actually got his first taste of senior League football in the 3rd tier with Billy Lamont's East Stirlingshire, moving there for a short loan spell in December 1977. It seems Billy kept him in mind for Thistle 10 years later! Fred spent 3½ seasons with Yoker Athletic from 1980 onwards, during which time he became a Scottish junior internationalist. He made the move to Pollok in November 1983, although his game time at Newlandsfield was limited the following season due to the form of Howard Sammeroff. Spent a number of seasons at Baillieston where he played into his 30s. Fun fact: Fred was educated at Knightswood Secondary… the same school as Alan Rough! |
