Frank Donlevy was born on Friday, 16th December, 1932, in Edinburgh.

The 5' 8 (11st 2lbs) midfielder signed for Davie Meiklejohn's Thistle on Tuesday, 8th March, 1955, having most recently been with Hibernian.

Aged 22, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 12th March, 1955, in a 0-0 draw away to Celtic in the SFL First Division.

Frank scored his first goal for Thistle on Saturday, 29th March, 1958, in a 3-1 win away to Queen of the South in the SFL First Division.

He scored the last of his 12 goals on Wednesday, 24th August, 1960, in a 6-3 defeat away to Rangers in the SFL First Division.

He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 11th November, 1961, in a 2-0 defeat away to Heart of Midlothian in the SFL First Division, having clocked up an impressive 216 appearances as a Jag.

Frank's club-list included Merchiston Thistle, Hibernian, Partick Thistle, St Johnstone and Berwick Rangers.

1956 - LEAGUE CUP

Wed-31-Oct-1956 [n] L0-3 Celtic (League Cup Final replay)

Hampden. Thistle were weakened by injuries but contained Celtic in a dull 1st half. Goals (49, 51 and 59) - some aided by poor defending - saw Thistle off. Collins, Kerr and Mathers tried hard but spirit alone wasn't enough and the makeshift defence inevitably wilted. “Celtic were faster and stronger” (GH).

1958 - LEAGUE CUP

Sat-25-Oct-1958 [n] L1-5 Heart of Midlothian (League Cup Final)

Rampant Hearts scored (clearly off-side, 5) then a crunching tackle by Mackay went unpunished and led to the 2nd goal (10). With a 3rd goal (28) and a 4th (off-side, 38) a drubbing looked likely but Smith scored with a header (56) then McParland hit the bar. Hearts' 5th (off-side, 68) was rough justice. Luckless.

1959 - GLASGOW CUP

Mon-28-Sep-1959 [n] L1-2 Rangers (Glasgow Cup Final)

Hampden. A spirited performance. Thistle attacked from the start but the forwards failed to combine and Rangers led 1-0 at h-t. Niven saved a 30-yard shot from Thomson before they scored again (49). A 25-yard free-kick from Davidson (75) signalled a Thistle rally but Thistle's skilful individual forwards didn't gel.

1960 - GLASGOW CHARITY CUP

Wed-11-May-1960 [n] L0-2 Rangers (Glasgow Charity Cup Final)

Hampden. “A match of dreadful mediocrity” (GH). Rangers scored following a dummy at a corner (5) and again (78) looking suspiciously off-side. With Smith missing and Hogan and Brown both injured early on, Thistle were up against it. A magnificent save denied Fearns (89) but it was a meek end to the season.

Mon-26-Sep-1960 [n] W2-0 Celtic (Glasgow Cup Final)

Hampden. Unchanged for 5 consecutive games, Thistle were on the back foot for most of the game but Celtic missed several chances. Cunningham pounced on a poor clearance (72) then McParland ran through the defence and shot home (74). Freebairn had some tremendous saves and Wright excelled.
