Effingham Smith was born on Wednesday, 16th May, 1883, in Tollcross, Glasgow. The forward signed for George Easton's Thistle on Saturday, 4th March, 1905, having most recently been with Vale of Clyde. Aged 22, he made his only appearance on Saturday, 6th January, 1906, in a 5-2 defeat at home to Third Lanark in the SFL First Division. There were no goals for Effingham in his one-off appearance for Thistle. His club-list included Vale of Clyde, Partick Thistle, Falkirk, Vale of Leven, Beith and St Bernard's. Effingham died on Wednesday, 23rd January, 1957, in Glasgow, aged 73.
