Bio Extra

Born as an Edward but more commonly known as an Edwin, this Maryhill boy could play anywhere along the front five line. He signed for Queen's Park in January 1922 and played 4 times in the League before the season was through. Made the switch to Firhill in September 1922, but first team action for the 19-year-old was limited to a single appearance at Fir Park two months later; a 1-1 League draw with Motherwell. In August 1923, Edwin stepped back to the Third Division with Peebles Rovers where his game time increased, but he was never a regular starter. He played a few times back in the top-flight with Third Lanark in 1924-25, but signed for Third Division Vale of Leven in May of that season. Was a near ever-present with Vale in 1925-26 which triggered a move down south. Edwin spent several years in English football, with spells at Leicester City, Nottingham Forest, Mansfield Town & Northampton Town into the early 1930s.

Edwin was still involved in the game in his final years. He was chairman of Leicestershire County F.A. from 1963 until he died. Edwin was living at 78 Pine Tree Avenue Leicester by the time of his death on 16th March 1970. He was cremated at Gilroes Cemetery in Leicester just 2 days later, his ashes being scattered in the grounds there. Josephine Lewis McLachlan was the person applying for the cremation.
