| Eddie Prudham |
 Charles Edward Prudham was born on Saturday, 12th April, 1952, in Felling, Tyne and Wear. The 5' 9 (10st 6lbs) forward temporarily transferred to Bertie Auld's Thistle on Thursday, 17th October, 1974, from his parent club, Sheffield Wednesday. Aged 22, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 19th October, 1974, in a 2-0 defeat away to Arbroath in the SFL First Division. Eddie scored his first two goals for Thistle on Tuesday, 29th October, 1974, in a 5-3 win away to Clyde in the Glasgow Cup. He scored the last of his 5 goals on Saturday, 9th November, 1974, in a 1-1 draw away to Aberdeen in the SFL First Division. That turned out to be his last game for the club, having appeared as a Jag on 5 occasions. Eddie's club-list included Sheffield Wednesday, Partick Thistle, Carlisle United, Hartlepool, Workington, Stockport County and Bournemouth. |
 Eddie joined Thistle on a loan deal from Sheffield Wednesday in October 1974. A contemporary report suggested that his parent club had valued him at around £20,000 and he had been offered to Thistle more or less on a trial basis. He quickly proved he could score goals and 5 games/5 goals later he was recalled to Sheffield. One press report suggested his value had increased to £35,000 (around £375,000 today). Carlisle United scooped him up on a permanent deal. History doesn’t record whether Thistle were too slow to bid for him or found the asking fee too steep. The Tynesider did however have what proved to be an eventful last appearance for Thistle. He scored in a 1-1 draw with Aberdeen and lay on the ground for the last couple of minutes. He was “sent off” after the final whistle having “had words” with the ref. The likelihood was that he had been fouled or was lying injured (or both!) and that the ref hadn’t stopped the game. Fans of a certain vintage will remember Eddie for his goal scoring promise. He scored in every game he started. Alas, it proved to be merely a cameo role. |
