Derek Lyle was born on Friday, 13th February, 1981, in Glasgow. The 5' 8 (10st 5lbs) forward signed for John Lambie's Thistle in July, 1999, having most recently been with Partick Thistle Boys Club. Aged 18, he made his debut appearance on Wednesday, 21st July, 1999, in a 1-1 friendly draw at home to Preston North End. Derek scored his first goal for Thistle on Saturday, 20th November, 1999, in a 2-1 win away to Queen of the South in the SFL Second Division. He scored the last of his 4 goals on Saturday, 12th February, 2000, in a 5-4 win at home to Queen of the South in the SFL Second Division. He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 12th January, 2002, in a 4-1 win away to Falkirk in the SFL First Division, having appeared as a Jag on 48 occasions. Derek's club-list included Partick Thistle, East Stirlingshire, Queen of the South, Stirling Albion, Dunfermline Athletic, Dundee, Hamilton Academical, Greenock Morton, Cowdenbeath, Peterhead and Broomhill. |

Tipped as the player to look out for in seasons to come, he's never been able to get a regular first team slot under Lambie's management, however, he thrived on regular first team football while out on loan to East Stirling and QOS, and eventually made the switch to the Doonhamers in the summer. |
