Bio Extra

In the SFA Annual for season 1884-85, David Hastie was listed as the Honorary Secretary for Partick Thistle, and his address was given as India Street, quite near to Anderston. In January 1885, because of injuries sustained against Our Boys, Thistle were under-strength for the tour game at Dundee against Strathmore. George McKay and Alexander Brown were unable to play because of injury, and Tom Maley had to return home because of a domestic problem. Local players filled some of the spaces, while secretary David Hastie replaced McKay and promptly broke his leg in the game! After two 30 minute halves the game ended 1-1.

Off the field at the end of that season, events had been hectic, although the press were unable to explain why. However, there were reports of great dissatisfaction amongst the club members, prior to the Annual General Meeting. Josh Halley was to be opposed by Hastie as club President, while Alex Rose had been persuaded not to move abroad, and to stay with the club. At the AGM, dissent was shown by the members in the form of “strong speaking and cutting innuendoes”, followed by a vote in which President Halley kept his position.

Hastie was voted onto the committee for 1886-87. When John Nisbet Boag retired as President in 1890, he was unanimously replaced by David Hastie in the vote, and was set to serve from 1890-91 onwards. He served in the role for at least two seasons, and was the club's representative to the Glasgow FA.
