| David Closs |
David Closs was born on Sunday, 1st June, 1941, in Paisley, Renfrewshire. The 5' 8 (10st 11lbs) midfielder signed for Willie Thornton's Thistle circa Saturday, 7th May, 1960, having most recently been with Troon. Aged 19, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 3rd December, 1960, in a 3-1 win away to Raith Rovers in the SFL First Division. That day, David became a member of our scoring debutant's club. He scored the last of his 4 goals on Monday, 17th April, 1961, in a 2-0 friendly win away to Luton Town. He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 23rd October, 1965, in a 4-3 defeat away to Dunfermline Athletic in the SFL First Division, having appeared as a Jag on 69 occasions. David's club-list included Troon, Partick Thistle and Brunswick Juventus. |
![]() A product of Troon Juniors, this right half signed for Willie Thornton's Jags in the springtime of 1960, just before turning 19. He spent 6 full seasons at Firhill, mainly in the reserves, albeit he did make almost 70 first-team appearances, 30 of these coming in his peak season, 1963-64. Can lay claim to have played in Europe with Thistle, although the 0-4 loss away to Sparak Brno in November 1963 was a sore one to take, with a first-leg lead being so heavily overturned. David was freed during the 1965-66 campaign, and emigrated to Australia, where he continued to play the game. By 2015, he was a grandad-of-five, and living on Philip Island, about 78 miles south-southeast of Melbourne. |
