Casper Hugo Nilsson was born on Wednesday, 26th November, 2003, in Ystad, Scania County. The 5' 11 (11st 0lbs) defender temporarily transferred to Kris Doolan's Thistle on Monday, 12th August, 2024, from his parent club, Brighton & Hove Albion. Aged 20, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 24th August, 2024, in a 2-1 defeat away to Falkirk in the SPFL Championship. There were no goals for Casper during his spell with Thistle. He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 14th September, 2024, in a 1-1 draw away to Ayr United in the SPFL Championship, having appeared for the Jags on 4 occasions. ![]() This young right-back, originally from southern Sweden, joined Brighton & Hove Albion as a 16-year-old in the summer of 2020 from Malmo Youth Academy. He featured regularly in Premier League 2 after moving to East Sussex and also played his part in the Brighton academy side’s 2023/24 run to the quarter-finals of the EFL Trophy. His play in the youth ranks for Albion earned him opportunities to train with the first team squad as well as call-ups to Sweden’s under 17, under 19 and under 21 squads. Being appointed the #2 shirt at Thistle suggested much more than was delivered, and the physicality of the Championship was too much for him. His only 90 minutes was a disastrous 3-1 defeat at home to Alloa Athletic in the Challenge Cup. A training ground injury picked up in October led to a return back down to Brighton for rehabilitation which proved to be the full stop in his Glasgow adventure, although the announcement to that effect took 3 months. Casper was released from Brighton in February 2025, the settlement allowing him to look for a new club outwith the transfer window. |
