Carrick Hamilton

Carrick Hamilton was born on Saturday, 3rd December, 1881, in Stevenston, North Ayrshire.

The forward signed for George Easton's Thistle on Tuesday, 1st August, 1905, having most recently been with Queen's Park.

Aged 23, he made his debut appearance on Tuesday, 15th August, 1905, in a 3-2 friendly defeat at home to St Mirren.

That day, Carrick became a member of our scoring debutant's club.

He scored the last of his 5 goals on Monday, 1st January, 1906, in a 3-2 win away to Motherwell in the SFL First Division.

He played his last game for the club on Thursday, 15th August, 1907, in a 4-0 friendly defeat at home to Clyde, having appeared as a Jag on 23 occasions.

His club-list included Ardeer Thistle, Petershill, Queen's Park, Port Glasgow Athletic Juniors, Ayr Parkhouse, Partick Thistle and Stevenston United.

Carrick died on Saturday, 17th February, 1945, in Johannesburg, aged 63.

Son of Archibald Hamilton and Ann Hamilton (née Crawford).

The Ayrshire native came through at Ardeer Thistle and had a brief two-game spell at Petershill before joining Queen's Park in August 1902. He spent 4 seasons at Hampden, playing with the first team as well as the "Strollers". There was a piece about him in the Glasgow Evening News in 1905, penned a few months after he'd joined at Meadowside (you can read it in full over at PT Early Years

At the beginning of the current season he went to Partick, and in the League eleven has played most consistently since the season opened, having only missed one game, and that at Dundee when business prevented him from doing the journey. Hamilton is a speedy dribbler, and shoots strongly and accurately. An evidence of the force which is behind his shots being given at Airdrie last week, when in saving from him, the home goalkeeper had his hand severely injured. Hamilton’s modent disposition, combined with his clever play, has already made him a favourite at Meadowside.

He returned to Queens in May 1906 and scored in their Merchant’s Charity Cup semi final win over Third Lanark. This led only to a silver medal however, as they were beaten 3-2 in the Final by Rangers. He scored twice in twelve League games for the Spiders in 1906-07, before seeing out his playing days back home with Stevenston United.

Carrick ended up in South Africa, and there he died in February 1945. He's buried at the West Park Cemetery in Johannesburg.
