Robert Thomson was born on Tuesday, 21st November, 1939, in Menstrie, Clackmannanshire.

The defender signed for David Meiklejohn's Thistle in 1956, having most recently been with Sauchie Juveniles.

Aged 17, he made his debut appearance on Saturday, 16th November, 1957, in a 5-0 defeat away to Dundee in the SFL First Division.

There were no goals for Bobby during his spell with Thistle.

He played his last game for the club on Saturday, 23rd April, 1960, in a 4-2 win away to St Mirren in the SFL First Division, having appeared as a Jag on 6 occasions.

Bobby's club-list included Sauchie Juveniles, Partick Thistle, Liverpool and Luton Town.

Bobby played first team football occasionally during his spell with Thistle. His brother Laurie was a player at Firhill when Bobby arrived at the club. In early December 1962, Bobby signed for Liverpool. The “Daily Mirror” of 6 December 1962 stated “Liverpool’s long search for a full back ended yesterday with the signing of Bobby Thomson for £5,000 from Partick Thistle.” Bobby broke a leg playing for Liverpool, and subsequently was transferred to Luton Town in August 1965. He subsequently moved to Australia.
