Bio Extra

Minerva had risen to become Glasgow's leading junior club, but folded at the end of season 1891/92, homeless and strapped for cash. Their record that season speaks for itself: P36, W28, D6, L2, F154, A39. It was a season in which they won the Glasgow Junior Cup and the Maryhill Charity Cup but, most impressively of all, they won the Scottish Junior Cup, beating Benhar Violet (Harthill) 5-2 at Cathkin Park. Thistle signed eight of them for the new season, i.e. William Alder, Andrew Stewart, James Mulvey, Robert Currie, Jacky Robertson, John Harvey, Maurice White and Joe Leiper. Between them they made around 330 appearances and scored 50 goals.

Andrew lasted a full season at Inchview, registering 6 known goals in 33 appearances. He played in the team which won the Greenock Charity Cup on 27th May 1893, defeating Morton by 7 goals to 4 in the final at Cappielow. It was a rather mediocre second campaign in the Scottish Alliance, Thistle winning 7 and losing 10 of their 18 matches. They resigned from that League at the end of the season, safe in the knowledge that they were elected to the newly formed SFL Second Division. Andrew never seen any official League action with Thistle, but returned in May 1894 in a failed bid to try and retain the Greenock Charity Cup. His last act as a Jag was to feature in the annual charity fundraiser for the Whiteinch Orphanage. On a "warm and seductive" evening in June 1894 the Jags lost out by 5 goals to 4 to a Govan Select. Poor Willie Paul scored 4 and finished on the losing side!
