![]() As it stands, there's no information that we can find on Wilson, although the Glasgow Evening News (14/9/1891) at least provided an initial when previewing the following day's Scottish Alliance match between East Stirlingshire and Partick Thistle. The Jags had just become founder members of the Alliance which was formed in rivalry to the Scottish Football League. This was just match day two of the new competition and the first "away" game as such, so it was a bit of history in the making. Around 1,000 were at Merchiston Park to see it. Wilson turned out at inside left on the day, partnering would-be club stalwart, John Gilchrist. Davie scored for Thistle (shot partially saved and off a post, 20) and then Paul hit the bar. A shot from Davie was saved but the keeper was charged over the line (30). Shire pressed for long spells, hit woodwork several and earned several corners but their headed goal (80) wasn't enough. Thistle went top - for a week! |
