  • 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw. Drawn matches were to be concluded with a penalty shoot-out, the winner of which would earn a bonus point. Teams finishing level on points were placed in order of superior goal difference, then by goals scored.
  • Scotland's 5 European representatives were given a bye, and 3 non-League teams were included in the tournament. The 40 teams were seeded to ensure that top teams and lesser teams were drawn against each other across the 8 groups. 8 group winners and the 3 best runners up advanced to the round of 16 single-legged knockout phase, where they were joined by the 'big 5'.
  • Table figures per spfl.co.uk, with the data integrity verified by The Thistle Archive.
  • For the 16th time out of 43 (1946-47 to date) Thistle win their League Cup group, and progress to the 2nd Round (R2). It's the 18th time qualified.||
  • For the first time since 2016, it's a 100% win rate in the group stages of the league cup for Partick Thistle. It's only the 3rd time in history Thistle have done such a thing, the first occurrence being 1975. As a bonus, the strong goal difference ensures that the Jags qualify as one of the three best group winners and are seeded for the 2nd Round draw.

yellow-card.png 1 pt is allocated for any given player's first yellow card, the point being in Thistle's favour when an opponent is booked and vice-versa. Second yellows are always ignored as superfluous. We introduce the yellow card count from season 1997-98 onwards as our records are comprehensive and meaningful from that season onwards. Official cautions began in the 1940s and we continue to (casually) build such data with a view to, perhaps, setting an earlier date for our yellow card analysis. Incidentally, the actual yellow card was first introduced to the Scottish domestic game in season 1979-80.
red-card.png 4 pts are allocated for sending offs, the points being in Thistle's favour when an opponent is sent-off and vice-versa. Our crime count database is 'open for business' from 1886-87 onwards as this was the first season that the English FA decreed that the referee had the power to send a player off, although the first known in a Scottish game wasn't until a season later and the first known in a Thistle game wasn't until 1891. Our data is comprehensive from then to the present day. As per the yellow, the actual red card was first introduced to the Scottish domestic game in season 1979-80.
