scorers in CAPS • used subs in brackets | |
1. Mon-02-Sep-2024 [a] D2-2 Queen's Park (City of Glasgow Cup - section game) L4-5 pens |
– 2.00pm, Lochinch. McCready, Monaghan, Williams, McKenna (Lockhart), Smith, Ablade (FALCONER), Sayers, Ashcroft (Johnston), Stanway, MacKenzie, DIACK (MacKay). Unused subs: Cameron, Low. |
– QP went ahead 10 secs into the second half through McLeish but, after a sustained spell of pressure, Ricco Diack levelled 10 minutes later, slotting home Ben McKenna's rebounded drive. Just 3 mins after coming on, McVey was sent-off after 2 quickfire yellows (63). A Matty Falconer goal (90) looked like a winner, but 10-man Queen's salvaged an injury-time draw with a set-piece via McGara (91) and went on to take the bonus point after a 5-4 penalty shoot-out win. Falconer was denied by Balfour after Stanway, MacKenzie, Sayers and MacKay had maintained parity until the last kick. Enjoyable game, despite the rain. |
2. Tue-05-Nov-2024 [a] L0-5 Rangers (City of Glasgow Cup - section game) |
– 7.45pm, Auchenhowie. Storey, Monaghan, Low (Dolan, 60), Falconer (Lockhart, 80), Smith (MacKay, 80), McBeth (Rooney, 60), Sayers, Stanway, Lyon, Taggart (McKenna, 55), Diack. All subs used. Played behind closed doors. 7 from the first team squad and 9 from the U18s. |
– Both sides had chances in a competitive first half under the lights at a rainy Auchenhowie, and Matthew Falconer was only a fingertip away from scoring what would've been a spectacular 35-yarder. Connor Storey did well with a string of fine saves to keep it level at the break. There didn’t appear to be a shooting opportunity for Romanian internationalist Hagi when he picked up the ball on the right-hand side of the penalty area, yet the Romanian showed tremendous opportunism to spot a gap at the near post and rifle a finish under Storey from an acute angle (58) and that was the turning point as Thistle had to come out and look for the equaliser. It didn't come and there was a late collapse to a Findlay Curtis hat-trick (79, 83, 88) with the inevitable penalty to Rangers (84) in-between. |
3. Fri-04-Feb-2025 [a] L0-5 Celtic (City of Glasgow Cup - section game) |
– 7.00pm, Lennoxtown, played behind closed doors. Line-up as yet unsourced. |
– Essentially, Thistle U-18s vs Celtic B, a clear mis-match. Tom Pickford, Samuel Isigzuo, Lucas Clearie and a double from Lewis Dobbie ensured the 3 points for Celtic. |
4. Tue-01-Apr-2025 [h] D4-4 Clyde (City of Glasgow Cup - section game) W5-3 pens |
– 7.30pm, Petershill Park. Cameron, Rooney, Low, Mann, Dolan, FALCONER, Ablade (Taggart, 60), MacKenzie (Lockhart, HT), Jakubiak (HORN, HT), CAMPBELL ((2), Waddell, 84), Lawless (McKenna, 60). Unsued sub: Storey (GK). |
– An 8-goal thriller at Peasy, the Jags fighting back from 0-2 & 1-3 down to take the game to a shootout. A great save from Luis Cameron and Jamie Low’s decisive spot kick earned the bonus point needed to confirm progression. Terry Ablade knocked down a high ball in the box for Matthew Falconer to hit home (26) for 1-2 at HT. Ché Campbell (72) had a lovely finish from inside the box, low to the keeper’s right and, 5 mins later, Jags levelled with a thunderous effort from Thomas Horn beating the keeper. Before Clyde could regroup, Ché Campbell’s curling effort into the far corner sent the Petershill faithful into a state of delight as it looked like Thistle were on course for the vital three points, but there was a late sting in the tail for 4-4 to set up the penalties drama. |
5. Tue-15-Apr-2025 [a] L1-2 Rangers (City of Glasgow Cup Semi Final) |
– 7.45pm, Auchenhowie. Mitchell, Rooney, Low, Monaghan, Kelly (Mann HT), Dolan, TAGGART (Paterson 70), Lockhart, Ablade (MacKay 70), Campbell, Lawless (Falconer HT). Other listed subs: Storey (GK), McKenna, Docherty. |
– On a fine evening at Auchenhowie Thistle trailed at the break thanks to a low shot (12) and a driven shot (20). There was hope when Jamie Taggart intercepted a back pass and dribbled into an empty net (50). Rangers continued to have most of the possession and David Mitchell pulled off a number of big saves, but both teams rued missed chances. |
