MP 27/8/1977. ANDERSON, TRIALIST (2). Line-up as yet unsourced, but also included McQuade and Johnston.
Weakened by injuries, Thistle fielded 3 trialists including a keeper. Anderson headed home the opener but Motherwell had a good spell and were 3-1 up at half-time. A fightback was rewarded with 2 goals from trialist No 9 and it could have been more on chances near the end.
4. Sat-27-Aug-1977 [a] L0-3 Rangers (Premier Reserve League)
AEE 27/8/1977. Line-up as yet unsourced.
5. Thu-08-Sep-1977 [h] D1-1 Clydebank (Premier Reserve League)
MP 17/9/1977. LOVE. Line-up as yet unsourced. Line-up also included Goodall, Devine, Kellachan, Gray, McGrain, Sheed.
A Weir cross from the right was helped on to Love who gave Thistle the lead from close in. Thistle were in control, looking good but a broken nose for McQueen signalled a reshuffle of the defence. It remained 1-0 until a lob deceived Rough leaving him stranded late on.
6. Sat-17-Sep-1977 [a] L1-3 Hibernian (Premier Reserve League)
AEE 17/9/1977. Line-up and scorer as yet unsourced.

Thistle were on the back foot from the start. Aberdeen took the lead with a header at a corner (17) then another header doubled the lead (28). Thistle were seen more in attack after half-time but with no result. A third goal (61) saw them well beaten.
8. Sat-08-Oct-1977 [a] W3-1 Queen of the South (Scottish 2nd XI Cup 1st Round)
MP 15/10/1977. GOODALL, STEVENSON (2). Line-up as yet unsourced, but also included Kelly, Thomson.
After an early spell of Queens pressure Thistle got into their stride. Goodall headed home a Weir cross and substitute Stevenson slipped the ball past the keeper. A needless pen gifted Queens a goal but Stevenson fired home for 3-1.
9. Sat-15-Oct-1977 [a] D0-0 Dundee United (Premier Reserve League)
MP 29/10/1977. Line-up as yet unsourced.
Two youthful teams fought out a goalless draw that was mainly confined to midfield.
10. Sat-22-Oct-1977 [h] W1-0 Ayr United (Premier Reserve League)
MP 29/10/1977. WEIR. Line-up as yet unsourced.
Good defending by Brogan and Thomson meant early United pressure brought them no reward then a fine move was finished off by Weir for 1-0. It proved to be the ony goal of a tight game.

Top v bottom was never a contest. Rangers had far too much firepower. Despite that it was McQuade who scored first from a short corner by McGrain. That only served to make Rangers more determined and by the half-hour they were 3-1 ahead. Two second half goals rubbed it in.

The welcome upturn in fortunes continued thanks to a goal by Frame.

MP 15/4 & APJ 8/4/1978. Thomson, McGrain, Hardie, Gray, Kellachan, Sheed, McDonald, Hansen, Weir, Stevenson, Johnston.
A jaded and poor performance allowed Aberdeen to be on top for most of the match. Despite that they had to reply on an og when Sheed deflected a shot past Thomson (25) for the win.
32. Sat-08-Apr-1978 [a] W5-0 Aberdeen (Premier Reserve League)
MP 15/4 & AEE 8/4/1978. Thomson, Waugh, Kellachan, Hardie, Hansen, GRAY, Goodall, McDonald, SHEED (2), KELLY (2), Weir. Strange fixture pairing with two matches at the same venue Friday and Saturday.
Twenty-four hours after a lacklustre performance Thistle produced a fine result. Sheed volleyed home a Goodall pass (14) and Gray hammered home a loose ball (55). Aberdeen had a spell of pressure then Kelly scored from close in (70). Goals by Sheed and Kelly left Aberdeen well beaten.
