1930-31 (Reserves)
The 56th season of Partick Thistle F.C.
scorers in CAPS
1. Sat-09-Aug-1930 [a] L1-3 Aberdeen (Scottish Alliance)
APJ 11/8/1930. Moyles, Sutherland, Fitzsimmons, Ross, Boardman, McAllister, Turner, Pope, Jenkins, McGillivray, HUNTER.
Both teams began pointless in the league. The only goal in a lively first half came from a pen (hand ball by Sutherland). Hunter deservedly equalised but Aberdeen hit back and took the lead. Thistle fought on but a goal 15 mins from time made sure.
2. Sat-16-Aug-1930 [h] W2-0 Kilmarnock (Scottish Alliance)
GH 18/8/1930. Line-up as yet unsourced. AN 18/8/1930 JENKINS, McGILLVRAY.

GH 22/9/1930. Line-up as yet unsourced.
8. Thu-25-Sep-1930 [h] L0-2 Queen's Park (Scottish Alliance)
GH 26/9/1930. Moyles, Sutherland, Fitzsimmons, Smith, Dunlop, McAllister, Young, Miller, Cunningham, McGillivray, Black.
The Strollers were better in all aspects of the game and deserved their win. A header finished off a flowing move (10) then a shot from a difficult angle doubled the lead (35). Moyes had several fine saves. Thistle showed up better after half-time but failed to break down a solid defence.
9. Sat-04-Oct-1930 [a] L1-4 Hamilton Academical (Scottish Alliance)
HAD 11/10/1930. Moyles, Sutherland, Fitzsimmons, Ross, McAllister, Hunter, Turner, Pope, CUNNINGHAM, Jenkins, Ramsay.
Hamilton introduced some new youngsters and got an immediate response. They led 3-0 at half-time. Cunningham scored but so did Hamilton for 4-1. A competitive but towsy second half saw Ross and a Hamilton player sent off.
10. Sat-11-Oct-1930 [a] D2-2 Dundee (Scottish Alliance)
DC 13/10/1930. Moyles, O'Hare, Fitzsimmons, Ross (D), McAllister, Hunter, Turner, McKay, CUNNINGHAM, McGillivray, ROSS (A).
Dundee disappoint. Two goals (5 and 25) gave Dundee a solid lead that didn't flatter them. Thistle were hardly seen in an attacking sense. The 2nd half saw a different Thistle team and goals by Cunningham and Ross earned a point as Dundee fell away.
11. Sat-18-Oct-1930 [a] D2-2 Ayr United (Scottish Alliance)
AN 20/10/1930. Line-up as yet unsourced. JENKINS (2).
12. Sat-25-Oct-1930 [h] W3-1 Motherwell (Scottish Alliance)
MT 31/10/1930. Moyles, O'Hare, Sutherland, Anderson, McIntyre, McAllister, Turner, POPE, JENKINS, McGillivray, CUNNINGHAM (pen).
Neither set of forwards made any impression against stout defences in the first half. Thistle had the best of the second half and won comfortably through Jenkins, Cunningham (pen) and Pope.
13. Sat-01-Nov-1930 [h] L1-5 Heart of Midlothian (Scottish Alliance)
SC 3/11/1930. Line-up as yet unsourced. AN 3/11/1930 DICKSON.
14. Sat-08-Nov-1930 [a] W3-2 Rangers (Scottish Alliance)
GH 10/11/1930. Line-up as yet unsourced. AN 10/11/1930 CUNNINGHAM (2), POPE.
15. Sat-15-Nov-1930 [a] L2-3 Celtic (Scottish Alliance)
GH 14/11/1930. Line-up as yet unsourced. AN 14/11/1930 CUNNINGHAM (2).
16. Sat-22-Nov-1930 [h] W9-1 Beith (Scottish Alliance)
GH 24/11/1930. Line-up as yet unsourced. AN 24/11/1930 CUNNINGHAM (4), FRASER, TURNER (2), POPE (2).
17. Sat-13-Dec-1930 [h] W3-2 Dundee (Scottish Alliance)
GH 15/12/1930. Line-up as yet unsourced. AN 15/12/1930 CUNNINGHAM (2). (1 og.)
18. Sat-20-Dec-1930 [h] W2-1 Hamilton Academical (Scottish Alliance)
HAD 27/12/1930. Moyles, Sutherland, Fitzsimmons, Grove, Ross, McGillivray, Turner, POPE (2), Cunningham, Murray, Jenkins.
Hamilton shaded the first half but went in even at 1-1, Pope having scored for Thistle. He scored the winner in the second half despite the Accies having been the better team.
19. Fri-02-Jan-1931 [h] D1-1 Aberdeen (Scottish Alliance)
APJ 3/1/1931. HUNTER. Line-up as yet unsourced.
It was a quiet start as the players got to grips with the dodgy surface. Hunter gave Thistle the lead then McGillivray fired a penalty wide. The equaliser came from a corner (35). It was nip and tuck after half-time but neither team could find a winner.
20. Sat-10-Jan-1931 [a] D3-3 Kilmarnock (Scottish Alliance)
KH 15/1/1931. Moyles, Sutherland, Barrowman, Grove, McAllister, McGillivray, TURNER, Frame, JENKINS, Murray, HUNTER (pen).
Kilmarnock took the lead but Turner took advantage of poor defending to level (25). It could have been worse by half-time. Thistle were caught on the break (47) then a brilliant solo effort made it 3-1. Goals by Jenkins and a pen by Hunter levelled things as Killie took their foot off the gas.
21. Sat-17-Jan-1931 [a] L0-4 Airdrieonians (Scottish Alliance)
CE 21/1/1931. Moyles, Sutherland, Fitzsimmons, Grove, Boardman, McGillivray, Turner, Miller, Jenkins, Murray, Greenshields.
Thistle seldom threatened but had the defence not made so many errors, they might have scraped a draw. The goals came after half-time, including 2 in 2 minutes. Airdrie's previous two matches had ended 3-6 and 1-7 so the win was a surprise to the locals.
22. Sat-24-Jan-1931 [a] W3-1 St Mirren (Scottish Alliance)
GH 26/1/1931. Line-up as yet unsourced. AN 26/1/1931 JENKINS, POPE, MURRAY.
23. Sat-31-Jan-1931 [h] W4-0 Airdrieonians (Scottish Alliance)
GH 2/2/1931. Line-up as yet unsourced. AN 2/2/1931 MURRAY, CUNNINGHAM (3).
24. Sat-07-Feb-1931 [h] W3-1 Morton (Scottish Alliance)
SC 9/2/1931. Line-up as yet unsourced. AN 9/2/1931 JENKINS, WYLLIE, McGILLVRAY.
25. ?Sat-14-Feb-1931 [a] W?-? Clydebank FC (Scottish 2nd XI Cup 1st Round)
Score not known. Won. Second round bye.
26. Sat-21-Feb-1931 [h] W7-1 Ayr United (Scottish Alliance)
GH 23/2/1931. Line-up as yet unsourced. AN 23/2/1931 WYLLIE (4), MURRAY, TURNER, JENKINS.
27. Sat-28-Feb-1931 [a] L1-5 Hibernian (Scottish Alliance)
SC 2/3/1931. HUNTER (pen). Line-up as yet unsourced.
Thistle played some polished football but were gradually worn down by a robust, direct Hibs team. They fell behind (35) and it was 2-0 by half-time. Hunter converted a penalty for hand-ball soon after the restart but 3 goals in 5 minutes towards the end rubbed it in.
28. Sat-07-Mar-1931 [a] L1-2 Airdrieonians (Scottish 2nd XI Cup Quarter Final)
CE 11/3/1931. Moyles, Sutherland, Fitzsimmons, Miller, Ross, McGillivray, Turner, Boardman, Wyllie, HUNTER (pen), Jenkins.
Airdrie led 1-0 at half-time. A penalty kick each after half-time (Thistle's converted by Hunter) completed the scoring. Some dubious tactics crept in late on as Thistle tried, but just failed, to find an equaliser.
29. Sat-21-Mar-1931 [h] W3-1 St Mirren (Scottish Alliance)
GH 23/3/1931. Line-up as yet unsourced. AN 23/3/1931 WYLLIE (2), TURNER.
30. Sat-28-Mar-1931 [a] L1-4 Motherwell (Scottish Alliance)
MT 3/4/1931. Moyles, Sutherland, Fitzsimmons, Anderson, Ross, McGillivray, Jenkins, Miller, WYLLIE, Murray, Hunter.
Early Motherwell corners came to nothing then Hunter dallied and a chance was gone. Motherwell scored (25) but Wyllie levelled (28). It was 2-1 at half-time. Motherwell's third (80) signalled a Thistle collapse and a fourth saw them going home pointless.
31. Mon-06-Apr-1931 [h] L1-7 Celtic (Scottish Alliance)
GH 7/4/1931. Line-up and scorer as yet unsourced.
32. Sat-11-Apr-1931 [a] W2-1 Heart of Midlothian (Scottish Alliance)
SC 13/4/1931. CUNNINGHAM (2). Line-up as yet unsourced.
4,000 saw Hearts take a half-time lead but they fell away after the break and Thistle got on top. Two "smartly taken" goals by Cunningham won the points.
